Privas
Privas is the préfecture
(administrative capital) of the Ardeche département.
It is located on the right bank of the Rhone River. Its
inhabitants are called "Privadois".
* Sights : La
Porte aux Diamants (“Diamond Door”), Chapel
of the Recollets Monastery, Diane de Poitiers Tower, Mont-Toulon
Belvedere, and the Louis XIII Bridge on the Ouveze River.
* Around Privas : Jobernies Caves, Bouschet
de Pranles (with the Protestantism Museum), Prieure
de Rompon, Abbatial de Cruas, Rochemaure Castle,
and Escrinet Pass between Privas and Aubenas.
* Gastronomy : Privas is the capital of
marron glacés(chestnut).

Ardeche
Ardeche offers a wide variety
of climates. A temperate climate
characterizes the north of the département.
In the south, it is more Provencal.
The “green” Ardeche, located
in the north, between an altitude of 350 and 850 m, is of
temperate climate. The Ardeche plateaux, located in the west
of the département, at an average altitude
of 1000 m, offer a middle-range mountain climate.
South Ardeche is characterized by a warm and dry climate,
almost Mediterranean.

d’Arc and the Ardeche River Gorges, Crussol Castle,
Chauvet Cave, Pont du Diable (“Devil Bridge”),
Paiolive Forest, Mezenc Mountain, Gerbier de Jonc (source
of the Loire River), Issarles Lake, Orgnac and Marzal Cave,
Regional Natural Park of Ardeche Mountains, and so on.
* Gastronomy : chestnut, goat cheese, bilberry,
delicatessen (cooked pork meats), wine
